I’m beyond excited to talk to you today about one of the most exhilarating events in the CrossFit community – the CrossFit Open! Why the CrossFit Open Matters
This year marks our 11th year as a CrossFit affiliate participating in the Open, and personally, it’s my 13th Open! Time flies when you’re having fun and pushing your limits, doesn’t it? When I first did the Open, there were only RX and scaled versions of the workouts. It was a bit daunting, especially for someone new like me. But things have changed, and they’ve gotten so much better!
Making It Accessible for Everyone
The Open has evolved to be more inclusive than ever. Now, it’s just three weeks long – three Fridays filled with amazing workouts that are accessible to everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete, a beginner, or part of our Legends program (55+), there’s a place for you. We’ve seen how these changes have transformed the Open into a welcoming event for all, fostering a stronger sense of community.
From 5 Weeks to 3: A Game Changer!
Back in the day, the Open required a five-week commitment. It was a big deal to balance training and work. Now, with the Open condensed into three weekends, it's so much easier to participate and stay motivated. Plus, we’ve got something special lined up – our Friday Night Lights for both morning and evening classes, ensuring everyone can join in the fun!
Community Cup: Together We Rise
This year, we’re thrilled about the Community Cup! Instead of just a few making quarterfinals, this new format brings the entire gym together. Complete all three workouts and submit your scores to compete against like-minded folks in June. It’s not just about individual achievements; it’s about celebrating our collective strength and support.
Team Spirit and Themes
We’re also introducing team drafts and awesome themes to add an extra layer of excitement. Last year’s wrestling theme was a hit, and we can’t wait to see what creative ideas you’ll bring this year. Plus, our final Friday Night Lights will feature a potluck-style dinner celebrating the diverse cultures within our community. It’s going to be a fantastic way to connect and share our favorite dishes!
Benchmarking Your Progress
The Open is a fantastic opportunity to benchmark your progress year over year. Whether you’re aiming for a new PR or just looking to see how far you’ve come, these workouts provide valuable data and insights. Personally, I’ve noticed improvements even as I age, and I believe CrossFiters are defying the standard of aging with every lift and run.
